BACKGROUND

Jazz Vocalist Tine Bruhn has released two critically acclaimed albums as a leader and headlined at major jazz clubs in the US and Europe including Duc des Lombards (Paris), Montmartre (Copenhagen), Chris' Jazz Cafe (Philadelphia), Smalls and Zinc Bar (NYC) where she is featured regularly. The Danish-born singer explores contemporary jazz as well as the tradition with her band consisting of some of the finest musicians on the New York scene.  

Tine Bruhn moved to New York City in 2001 after having graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston. In NYC she performs at some of the city’s best music venues including Kitano, Smalls and Bar Next Door. She consistently plays with top musicians and has become a regular on the program at the well-known jazz club Zinc Bar. Her latest release "Nearness"  (2013), a duo recording of standards with pianist Johnny O'Neal (Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Milt Jackson), has received stellar reviews along both national and international airplay.

Ms Bruhn grew up in Flensburg, Germany where she started her career at an early age.In high school she started the vocal group "Kvart I Fire", recorded her first CD with the group and sang in two semi-professional classical choirs. Around that time she discovered her passion for jazz and went to many of the live jazz concerts by visiting Danish musicians such as NHØP and Danish Radio Big Band. After performing with a jazz trio she decided to make the big move to the United States. In Boston she studied with Sheryl Bentyne (Manhattan Transfer), recording artist Walter Beasley, Grammy award winner Richard Evans and distinguished scat educator Bob Stoloff. 

Tine holds a Master of Music in Jazz Studies (MM) from City University of New York, Queens College where she studied with BigBand arrangers Dennis Mackrel and Michael Mossman, jazz pianists David Berkman and Jeb Patton and saxophonist Antonio Hart.

Her debut solo CD "Entranced" was released in 2009 and featured Greg Hutchinson on drums and Maurice Brown on trumpet. 

Tine Bruhn visits Europe frequently and has performed at leading jazz clubs including Duc des Lombards in Paris and B-Flat in Berlin. She has performed at festivals including "New York In Paris"-Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Winter Jazz Denmark, Sorø Jazz Festival. 

Musicians in her bands include Anthony Wonsey, Benito Gonzalez, Essiet Essiet, Corcoran Holt, Joe Blaxx, George Burton, Joel Holmes, Johnny O'Neal, Stacy Dillard, Lars Haake, Magnus Hjorth, Jesper Bodilsen, Snorre Kirk, Claus Waidtløw, Kjeld Lauritsen, Per Gade, Jesper Løvdal, Bjarne Roupe, Bo Stief, Alex Riel, Jakob Park, Morten Ankarfeldt, Janus Templeton, Jesper Hindø, Marco Panascia, Rob Duguay and many more. 

The album “Nearness” is a natural ‘documentation’ of the musical relationship between Tine Bruhn and Johnny O’Neal, two very different musicians. Different in the sense of background, age, ethnicity, gender. But musicially they complement each other highly and the listener will hear a relaxedness and comfortness shining through.

The music was recorded in only one day with just two takes per song. Johnny O’Neal states “We just went in there and laid it down! It just felt right!”

Tenor saxophonist Stacy Dillard is feautured on four tracks. Ben Ratliff (NY Times) calls Dillard “a young saxophonist of serious promise,” and he has played with Wycliffe Gordon, Eric Reed and Roy Hargrove amongst many others.
